The Galway Clinic provides patient care services on a day and in-patient basis. We also have an A&E unit oepn daily from 10am to 7pm. Day patients are welcomed as early as 6 am for procedures or surgery on the same day with discharge home within 8-12 hours. For a procedure that requires overnight stay, patients are accommodated on any one of three superbly designed units: Mother Teresa’s, O’Malley or Freyer.

These three units have been designed so that patients can be cared for in single, double or four bed accommodation of hotel standard. Nursing and ancillary care is of the highest standard and every attempt is made to meet the unique needs of all patients. The patients can access TV, Radio, Internet and telephone from their beds.

Creativity and Commitment

There are 7 theatres (operating rooms) fully equipped with the most up to date technology. Our staff (medical and nursing), have been recruited from well established academic institutions; their skill sets are broad and diverse and their creativity and commitment is outstanding. At this time, our main focus is on tackling the three main causes of premature mortality in Ireland: Heart disease, Cancer and Stroke. From an operative perspective, we perform high volumes of orthopaedic procedures such as hip and knee replacement, hip resurfacing and arthroscopy. Specialist surgeons provide medical and surgical services that are evidence based and state of the art.

We promote consultant-nursing partnership and to that end, there is a Theatre User’s Group in place which meets monthly to manage the theatre and to be ever vigilant in relation to seeking opportunities for improvement. There is a strong focus on monitoring quality and outcomes, on the standardisation of equipment and supplies and on containing costs within the theatre environment.
Unique Skill Sets

The processes of welcoming patients before surgery, caring for them following surgery and attending to their needs before discharge are carefully designed and planned. Patient feedback is always welcomed as an opportunity for improvement.

The Intensive Care Unit comprises 8 beds (2 single rooms). This unit is fully equipped with the most modern technology. Staff are highly competent and provide care over the 24-hour period. The unit is positioned adjacent to theatre and recovery suites so as to maximize and capture the unique skill sets that are required should an emergency occur.

An oncology unit provides a supportive private environment where patients can receive chemotherapy on a daily basis. The nursing staff emphasizes holistic care and they support the patient from the time of diagnosis, through the treatment plan and into care at home.
“Patient-Centred” Care

The Cardiology suite and Cath Lab. provide services that include invasive and non-invasive procedures. A diverse grouping of diagnostic and interventional procedures are performed, such as: coronary angiograms, angioplasty, stent placement and insertion of temporary and permanent pacemakers, ECG, stress testing, 24 hour holter monitoring, 24 hour pressure monitoring and echo cardiography.

Our main focus is “patient-centred” care at the Galway Clinic. We pride ourselves in sharing with you our unique set of values and we will care for you at a time when you are most vulnerable in a professional, caring and competent manner.
