Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiogram

What is a Trans-Oesophageal Echocardiogram?

This is a specialised form of cardiac ultrasound, allowing more detailed examination of the heart valves and major blood vessels.

Instead of obtaining images through the chest wall the ultrasound probe is passed into the oesophagus (gullet) under sedation.

This is a day case procedure and you will need someone to drop you off and collect you afterwards.
