Before Your Procedure
Before coming to the Daycare unit, you may have been provided with instructions to follow for your procedure.
This may include details regarding medication you are taking. It may also include fasting guidelines, if necessary, for your procedure.
It is important to follow any instructions you have been given.
It is important to have transport arranged to get home after your procedure. If you are having a general anaesthetic, it is advisable to have someone stay with you overnight.
The Day of your Procedure
On the day of your procedure, you will firstly be met by a member of the administration team and they will confirm your personal and insurance details and obtain your consent for admission into the Daycare unit.
You will then be met by one of the Daycare nurses and a nursing admission will be completed. This will involve asking questions about your medical and surgical history. These questions are important to ensure your safety throughout your journey with us in the Daycare Unit.
After your Procedure
After your procedure, you will spend some time recovering within the unit. When you are feeling ready, you will be given tea and toast and assisted to mobilise.
Once your nurse and consultant are satisfied with your recovery, you will be able to go home.
It is important to follow the instructions given to you by your consultant and nurse on discharge.
You should not drive, drink alcohol, smoke, make any legal decisions or sign any legal documents for 24 hours after sedation or a general anaesthetic.
If you are given a prescription, it is important to fill it as soon as possible and follow your nurses, consultants or pharmacists advice.
