About the service
Our Emergency Department provides patients with consultant-led rapid access to expert assessment and treatment. It is fully integrated with all other hospital services, ensuring seamless access to world-class clinical services and hospital facilities should the need arise.

We treat patients with:
Complaints such as: 
  • Abdominal pain 
  • General surgery
  • Back pain 
  • Chest pain 
  • Cough
  • Headache 
  • Palpitations 
  • Shortness of breath
  • Minor injuries

If the patient’s condition does not meet the criteria above, the Emergency Department team will discuss other symptoms over the phone and advise accordingly. 

Exceptions 
We do not treat: 
  • Acute stroke  
  • Gynaecology emergencies  
  • Major trauma cases
  • Mental illness 
  • Patients requiring an emergency ambulance
  • Pregnancy-related complaints. 
Patients with these conditions are advised to attend their local public Emergency Department instead.

The service is predominantly for patients 16 years and over. 
Children 5-16 years, with minor injuries will be seen. 

Insurance 
Not all services are covered by health insurance. To find out if you are covered, contact your health insurance provider before your appointment. 

Payment 
All patients who attend our Emergency Department will need to pay a consultation fee of €175 with a GP referral letter or €225 without a GP referral letter at the time of their appointment. You will also need to pay for any tests you have during your appointment. (You may be able to claim back these costs from your insurance or your taxes using a Med 1 form).
