The Respiratory Department of the Galway Clinic is committed to provide the highest quality of care to patients, suffering from all forms of lung disease using the most up to date equipment and purpose-built facilities. The Respiratory Department of the Galway Clinic provides quality, conscientious, cost-effective and competent care with respect for life and dignity at every stage of human experience.
We provide intermediate care for a wider spectrum of respiratory disease and long-term breathing difficulties, including difficult asthma, allergies, interstitial lung disease and respiratory failure needing domiciliary ventilatory support. 
Our Respiratory consultants at the Galway Clinic are experts in asthma, allergy, bronchitis, cigarette induced lung disease (COPD), lung cancer, lung fibrosis and sleep disorders.
We also see patients with sleep related illness, and we have a Sleep and Pulmonary function laboratory for a range of sleep and diagnostic breathing tests that patients may require determining a diagnosis.

Respiratory Diagnostic Tests:

Lung function tests are breathing tests to check how well your lungs are working. The tests can be done for many conditions and help to:
  • Diagnose a condition
  • Measure your response to treatment
  • Monitor your progress

The Respiratory  tests available include:

  1. Spirometry (FEV1, FVC) with Flow volume loop
  2. Reversibility Testing / Response to Bronchodilators  
  3. Transfer test / Diffusing capacity (DLCO)
  4. Body Plethysmography (Lung Volumes Measurement )
  5. Nitrogen Washout (Lung volumes measurement)
  6. Skin prick allergy test
  7. Muscle Pressure assessment
  8. Bronchial challenge tests
  9. Mannitol Chalenge Test
  10. Methacholine Challenge Test
  11. Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test
