Congratulations to our Physiotherapist, Meghan Carter who successfully completed her specialist training in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD). Meghan is now one of only five specialist therapists eligible to provide this service in the West of Ireland
Lymphoedema is a chronic progressive disease resulting from failure of the Lymphatic system to drain fluid throughout the body, causing diffuse and severe swelling most typically in the limbs.
Part of the specialist role of the lymphoedema physiotherapist is to provide Complete Decongestive Therapy or CDT for the treatment of lymphoedema.
CDT is a combination of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), compression bandaging, skin care and specific exercises to promote wellness and lymphoedema management.
