Dr. Michael Regan - a graduate of NUIG - is a Consultant Rheumatologist & Osteoporosis Specialist. He commenced Rheumatology Rooms practice, opening an ‘Adult Rheumatology & Osteoporosis Centre’, in Galway Clinic in 2015. He is U.S. Board-Certified in both Internal Medicine & Rheumatology having spent 9 years in the U.S. (2 years at Tufts University, Boston & 7 years at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore). He carried out a 3-year Clinical and Research Fellowship in Rheumatology at Johns Hopkins Hospital before being appointed, in 2001, as Consultant Rheumatologist & Assistant Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins. In 2002, he was promoted to Head of Rheumatology Education for the Residents in the Internal Medicine training program at Johns Hopkins, a post he held until he returned to Ireland in 2005. Before his return to Ireland, Dr. Regan had worked for 4 years as a Consultant Rheumatologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition to general Rheumatology, he is an expert in Osteoporosis management & DXA interpretation and is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD).
He is interested in the entire spectrum of Rheumatological diseases with a particular emphasis on Osteoporosis, Vitamin D, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and Gout. The following clinics are offered for adults over 18 years of age: General Rheumatology & Musculoskeletal Clinic (for gout, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.), Fibromyalgia Clinic including assessment of non-specific pains & aches, Osteoporosis & Vitamin D Clinic, Bone Health Clinic, Post-Fracture Bone Health Clinic, Post-op Bone Health Clinic for Hip & Knee replacement patients.
