Graduated from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1991. After completing senior registrar urological training in Ireland in 2003, and being awarded an M.D. thesis, Mr. Bouchier Hayes spent three years working as a senior lecturer/consultant urologist in the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. There he developed his interest in photoselective vaporisation prostate/laser prostatectomy and robotic assisted radical prostatectomy.
Mr. Bouchier Hayes’s main areas of interest are in benign prostatic disease and the use of laser therapy as a surgical treatment of this. Also he was involved in pioneering the use of the da Vinci robotic surgical system for the treatment of organ confined prostate cancer and was instrumental in introducing this to the Galway clinic in 2007. This was the first robotic radical prostatectomy program established in Ireland. His other interests include minimally invasive and laser treatments of urinary stones, prostatitis and interstitial cystitis
