Professor Kelly is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Galway Clinic, Bon Secours Hospital, Galway and is Honorary Professor of Plastic Surgery at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG).
He has trained in Cork, Dublin, Boston, Melbourne, Texas and has completed international fellowships in Burns, Hand Surgery and Microsurgery.
Professor Kelly is a former secretary of The Irish Association of Plastic Surgery and former Clinical Director and Chairman of the Medical Board at Galway University Hospital.

Professor Kelly is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, The British Association of Aesthetic Surgeons, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons, The Irish Society for Surgery of the Hand and is an Intercollegiate Examiner for the FRCS Plastic Surgery Exams.
Professor Kelly has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers and has a higher degree in Trauma-induced immune suppression from work performed at Harvard University (The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston). He is also a reviewer for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
Professor Kelly interests include the early detection and treatment of melanoma using digital dermoscopy and total body photography. He also has a busy hand surgery practice including carpal tunnel decompression, Dupuytrens disease, hand trauma and aesthetic surgery. Research links include CURAM and the Departments of Anatomy, Psychology and Social Science in NUI Galway.
